My name is Ananda Moonasingha and I was born in March 1945.                                         
My occupation is Civil & Structural Engineer.
I am originally from Sri Lanka, and I live in Britain.

My old school is Ananda College, Colombo.
From 1964 to 1969 I was with
Department of Irrigation in Sri Lanka.
In 1969 I came to England to study Civil Engineering and having followed a sandwich course at Twickenham College of Technology, gained a HND in Civil Engineering in May 1972.
From 1972 to 1976 I followed a degree course at Thames Polytechnic, now University of Greenwich, and gained a B.Sc (Hons) in Civil Engineering.
1970 - 1975: During sandwich course training I worked with various consultancy, local government and contractor organisations in civil engineering offices and construction sites; including drainage, bridges, traffic engineering, structures and foundations.
In 1976 - 1977 I worked with Howard Humphreys at Leatherhead in Surrey, doing design and preparation of drawings for sewerage systems and sewage treatment works for Sana'a capital of Yemen.
1977 - 1981:  I  was a graduate structural engineer with LG Mouchel & Partners in West Byfleet, Surrey. I designed building and civil engineering structures of methanol plant projects in Russia, and Castle Peak power station in Hong Kong.
1983 - 1985:  I followed a post graduate course in Civil Engineering in Hot Climates at University of Leeds, and obtained an M.Eng degree. A principal subject in the degree was tropical public health engineering.
1990 -1991:  I was in Sri Lanka. During this time I did a literature survey at the Mahaweli Authority library and made site visits to Mahaweli River engineering and reservoir projects in Sri Lanka and wrote a paper on 'The Environmental Impacts of
Mahaweli River Engineering and Reservoir Projects' and presented at the IWEM conference in Birmingham in May 1991. May - Dec 1991:  I served as a Civil Engineer in the Kiriibbanwewa sub-system office of Mahaweli Economic Agency in Udawalawe Project, leading a team of Technical Officers engaged in maintenance and repair of sub-system irrigation works and rural infrastructure.
1988 - 1999:  I studied part-time with the Open University in UK and gained a BA (Hons) degree in 2000. I studied a diverse range of subjects including: Ecology, Modelling with mathematics, Environmental pollution control and public health, Economics, Arts and culture.
1993 - 1994:  I pursued a postgraduate course in Energy Utilisation and Environment at the University of Liverpool and received a Diploma in Engineering. 
1995 - 1996:  I followed a postgraduate course at University of Liverpool and obtained an M.Sc (Eng) in Environmental Civil Engineering.
2003 - 2004:  I worked as a Technical Officer at the Transportation Strategy with Birmingham City Council, doing outline design of signal controlled junction improvement project and preliminary works of Bus Showcases.
From June 2008 to Feb 2009 I worked as a Civil & Structural Engineer with Stopford Projects Ltd near Ellesmere Port. In this post I did design calculations and checking design calculations for civil & structural works mainly for improvements to oil terminals and wrote reports on design, feasibility studies and scope of works.
I am a Graduate Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers. GMICE.
Since 1980s I have contributed to
engineering journals and made presentations at international conferences. I received an ICE Miller prize in 1989.
